Breath is Life. Inhale oxygen. Exhale carbon dioxide. Breath is what we do about 20 times a minute each day of our life. Breath happens without thought…until we have trouble breathing.
But breathe easy. Ingham's Pulmonary Services Department has been diagnosing and treating respiratory diseases for more than 50 years, beginning with influenza and tuberculosis. Now, the Pulmonary Medicine multidisciplinary team diagnose and treat a broad range of respiratory disorders, from asthma and emphysema, to lung cancer and sleep apnea. The clinical team includes board-certified pulmonologists and cardio-thoracic surgeons, to respiratory therapists, sleep technologists, and other clinical personnel. All board-certified pulmonologists conduct research, and are on the clinical faculty of the Schools of Medicine at Michigan State University.
Outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation and asthma education takes place at The Meerman Center at the corner of Washington and Greenlawn avenues. All services require a doctor's prescription.
Ingham was originally founded as a chest hospital; today, The Pulmonary Services team provides comprehensive care, from initial evaluation and treatment through home care services. The mission: to restore individuals with compromised lung function to their peak capacity through a variety of treatment approaches.
